The Documentation Process - How to get off on the right foot with User Adoption part 5

What is documentation?

Documentation records information about tasks, procedures or specifications. It can be written on paper, or viewed online. People who need to know the recorded information read the documentation to learn the tasks, procedures, or specifications. These “people” are typically referred to as users.

What needs to be documented for system users?

On enterprise system projects, we always recommend that you document:

  • Business Processes - A particular business task, like Purchasing Raw Materials. Business processes include both the system and manual steps that comprise a task.

  • System Task - A certain task in the system, like Creating a Purchase Order. A system task in S is comprised of screens that you must type information in.

  • Quick Reference Information - Menu paths, transaction codes, and other shortcuts that are helpful to a user.
